Randal G. Shelin, MD, MPH
Dr. Shelin joined Desert Radiology in 2001 and was appointed President in January of 2012. As President, Dr. Shelin provides medical group leadership and works closely with the executive leadership team to guide and direct the practice. Dr. Shelin served as Naval Flight Surgeon and Primary Care Medical Officer for the US Navy. He also served with the US Navy as a Naval Reserve Flight Surgeon. As a Naval Reserve, he participated in drills with VR-55 at Point Mugu, California, and participated overseas in Operation Iraqi Freedom. In August of 2008 Dr. Shelin retired from the US Navy after 20 years of service. Prior to joining Desert Radiology, Dr. Shelin was employed by Diagnostic Imaging of Southern Nevada, where he served as the Administrative Director of the Surgery Center. Dr. Shelin received his Medical Degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. He continued his medical career at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, completing a four-year residency in Diagnostic Imaging. Dr. Shelin earned his Master of Public Health from the Tulane University, School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. In 1989, he was designated as Naval Flight Surgeon after attending the U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon School at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute at NAS Pensacola, Florida.
Richard E. Bodager, CPA, MBA, FACMPE
Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Bodager joined Desert Radiology in 2016 bringing over 20 years of senior level management experience from his roles as chief executive and chief financial officer for large medical practices, as well as from his involvement on several for-profit and not-for-profit boards. As Chief Executive Officer Mr. Bodager provides hands-on management of daily operations as well as oversees the company’s strategic development and long-term institutional goals. Mr. Bodager works closely with the senior management team and directs internal functions for the achievement of corporate objectives. Mr. Bodager received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from West Virginia State University and his Master’s degree in business administration from Southern Oregon University. He is a certified public accountant licensed in the State of Oregon, a Fellow in the American College of Medical Practice Executives and a Certified Medical Practice Executive. In 2012, Mr. Bodager received the national award for being the Medical Practice Executive of the Year from Medical Group Management Association.
Matthew T. Grimes
Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Grimes joined Desert Radiology in 2016 as Chief Operating Officer. He is responsible for directing, administering and coordinating all clinical and patient relations functions of the organization in accordance with policies, goals and objectives established by the corporation’s executive committee. Additionally, Mr. Grimes assists in developing strategic short and long range plans for operational, personnel, and financial performance and growth. Mr. Grime’s previous healthcare management experience encompasses imaging services, cardiology, oncology, podiatry, hospice and endocrinology. With more than 16 years of healthcare leadership, he has provided senior level leadership in all aspects of hospital operations, financial management, business development, quality of care and strategic initiatives. Before joining Desert Radiology, Mr. Grimes was employed by DaVita HealthCare Partners Medical Group of Nevada. As Associate Vice President of Specialty Services, he provided leadership and operational direction for employees across all ancillary and support services departments. Mr. Grimes holds a Master of Business Administration from University of Phoenix and a Bachelor of Science in Radiology Administration from the University of Nevada.
Greg Nainani, CPA, MBA, FACHE
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Nainani joined Desert Radiology in 2016 as its Chief Financial Officer, bringing over 10 years’ successful leadership experience in the healthcare industry and 25 years’ experience in a mix of public and private organizations. Prior to joining Desert Radiology, he served as the CFO of the New Mexico Heart Institute. Additionally, he served as the CFO of Physician Services for Walla Walla General Hospital (an Adventist Health entity) and as the Compliance Officer and Director of Financial Reporting for Mayo Clinic Health System, Albert Lea. Mr. Nainani possesses an extensive background in activity-based costing, capital budgeting, modeling and analysis, consolidated financial reporting, fund accounting, and asset pricing/valuations. He helps develop sustainable organizations through strategic planning, organizational alignment and an emphasis on long-term value creation. Mr. Nainani holds a Master’s of Business Administration degree from the University of Southern California and a Bachelor’s of Business Administration from California State University, Fullerton. He is a California licensed Certified Public Accountant, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and a Fellow of the Healthcare Finance Management Association.
Paul J. Smith
Chief Information Officer
Prior to joining DR, most recently Paul was a management consultant with a global consulting firm, where he served as Senior Technology Lead in the national healthcare practice. Paul is a results-driven executive with extensive experience in Healthcare IT Best Practices, Service Delivery, Product Development, Program Management Offices, and Information Security. Over his 20+ year career, Paul has 15 years of experience as a CIO/CTO, and has brought products to market in numerous verticals via a variety of technology platforms including retail software, enterprise solutions, internet portals, Software-as-a-Service offerings, and healthcare analytics products. He is co-inventor on multiple patent filings representing systems, methodologies, and business processes for identifying population health trends of clinical trial patients from healthcare data.
